(0.35l/12oz) with Kefir Grains (12g) by Kefir Fermenter
This makes kefir sooooo easy! The kefir that came with it wasn’t my favorite so I replace it with another from fusion teas (they sell here on amazon). But my kefir is coming out so rich and creamy like fizzy yogurt! And in 12hrs to boot!. My only complaint is the straw. While they do cap the top of the straw so nothing really gets in it much due to air pressure holding liquid out. Sometimes little drops get in the bottom which annoys me because I have to clean it out and I don’t even want to use the straw in the first place. I would prefer the manufacturer used a solid acrylic rod which is what I will be replacing it with when I next visit my local plastics store. You can buy acrylic rod at any plastics store such as Tap Plastics. This is easily worth the money! When I first started kefir for digestive issues I ended up letting my grains die from laziness because I was feeling better and my kefir wasn’t coming out tasty enough to tempt me into the 5-10 min process of sifting the grains. I bought this when my tummy started to get upset again. I am so glad I did! My process with this system is simple:I bought 2 of these just for the extra glass but you could just buy extra glasses if you prefer.1). I fill an empty mug with 4% from the fridge up to the bottom of the last curve of the glass (where it curves back in at the top)2). I take my currently fermenting kefir, open it up swirl around slowly as a pull it out (it has a wet yogurt consistancy so there’s semisolid stuff floating above the kefir net cup that would flop out on the table if you just pull straight out) and I hold the kefir cup horizontally over the mug and tap the straw on the side while spinning the straw a little. This knocks out any semisolid yogurt stuffs (whey maybe?) from the kefir cup.3). Now I place the kefir net cup into the fresh mug from step 1 and I swirl a little to clean off any residuals so the grains are right up against fresh milk.4). Enjoy the old kefir or double ferment!I do steps 2 and 3 so that I never have to rinse under water. I doubt it hurts the grains much, but I did not like the flavor of the provided grains. Also, I only fill the net cup up 1/2 way (you can eat the extra grains if you have nothing else to do with them, they’re mostly tasteless but have a disturbing gummy consistency :P) and I do this process morning and evening. If I wait a full day the kefir separates into whey and is just a bit harder to do since you have to stir up the whey into the liquid part and getting whey out of the net cup is just that much harder.Wow! Talkative! I hope all that yakking helps! :S
